Mix By Request - Electronic Music for Littlefield Vol.1 by dannytdot

My friend Jenny was asking about electronic music, i'm no expert but i happen to listen to a lot of electronic music so i offered to make a mix for her - i'm also sharing it with you...

if you'd like me to put together a mix on a theme or with a particular kind of music drop me a line, i'll see what i can do - bare in mind that i am limited, because of data storage and uploading capabilities to between a half hour and an hour or so...

Don't Call Me Baby [12" Mix] - Madison Avenue

Retina - Ellen Allien & Apparat

Jet - Ellen Allien & Apparat

Barbarella (Deep Dish Armageddon Breakdown Remix) - Sasha & John Digweed

Space Rays - Martin O

Knuddelmaus - Ulrich Schnauss

Still Smiling (Fortran 5 Remix) - I Start Counting

Small Memory (Tunng Remix) - Jon Hopkins

Mookid - Aphex Twin

this is very much a shotgun blast from my electronic music collection - i went for stuff that i like - that is, in my mind, essential... meaning it captures some of the essence of what electronic music is about... by no means should you consider this representative of the wide label that is ”electronic music” or anything like that, nor is it histrorically or chronologically put together, I simply made a mix of stuff I like.
i am no expert as far as labels, titles, artists, styles of electronic music go - i like what i like ...
i am consistently attracted to music that has a groove an elemental beat a dynamic, is melodic and sometimes something that is challenging in some way for my brain...
i don't know if these tunes qualify as house music orchill out, downtempo, techno, dance, breakbeat or what...i just know they have a groove and i enjoy them...
i hope you do too...

a retro-futurism, golden oldies, kitsch, feel... i used songs from a the 50's 60's and 70's as well as a few contemporary tunes...

wallwindow

There is a wall outside my window
I’ll have to learn to like walls
Or change windows

if i started a band...

if i started a band called Bill Banning and the White Pages, would you join it? What would you play or do for the band? I'm totally open to suggestions…

simile

like bread stares at peanut butter
like cheese stares at crackers
like milk stares at cereal

also I have been listening to the new Matthew Dear record - Black City - it is good but so far i am not as in love with it as his prior - Asa Breed

and as a result of watching the movie Synth Britannia and working on a play called Speech and Debate I have been digging through old eighties pop vaults... it is quite enjoyable - i wish i had a copy of the Depeche Mode album Speak and Spell... while digging thru the old stuff i was listening to one of my favorites from the early eighties Jive My Baby from Duck Rock by Malcom McLaren it seems to presage both the album Graceland and The Sugarcubes - i started reading a little bit about the album and McLarens Inspiration and what various folks had to say and my reading led me to Mahlathini & The Mahotella Queens

- so great!

and here's one more from the eighties - it makes me think of The Pixies - I wonder if Frank Black is a Trio fan?

what?!

my phone thinks it's 2008...
i thought it was connected to like some military clock...
or some national clock...
some big master clock, via satellite or something...

i don't want it to be 2008.
a lot has happened since then.

some good books and records and movies have come out.
i've changed a lot of diapers.

and cleaned a lot of litter boxes.

this is not how time travel should work.
